archipel is a support programme for the emerging photographic scene in Belgium, initiated by Contretype in 2023. This is its fourth edition. The programme operates as a framework for artistic development, encompassing research, the production of new works, and the fostering of dialogue between practices.
archipel brings together six projects selected through an open call, offering as many singular perspectives on the issues and contemporary forms of photography and image-making.
Harold Delhaie, Sevdenur Doğan, Barbara Salomé Felgenhauer, Nanténé Traoré, Quinten Vermeulen and Serena Vittorini approach photography as a practice shaped by social, political and affective concerns. Their works engage with the intimate, the political, the domestic, memory, territory, the visible and its zones of erasure. Together, their projects form a sensitive and fragmented cartography of our relationship to the world, where the image becomes both a critical tool and a site of resistance and repair.
In 2026, archipel evolves into a network bringing together five institutional actors in the field of photography and image-making: BIP (Liège), CRP (Douchy-les-Mines), Fabrique du Regard (Brussels), ILES asbl (Brussels) and Contretype.
